The Seed of Abraham and the Free Woman,
or the Seed of the Taliban and the Bond Woman?
Marriage and Sexuality
Apostle Paul in Galatians speaks about God's people being the seed of Abraham and the seed of the free woman,
rather than the seed of the bond woman, who Paul said was in bondage with her children (Gal 4:25). Of whose seed
were the following writers? Some people count the American doctors and teachers who wrote the below as the
American Taliban, because they had such austere manners. Following are quotes of John Kellogg, a popular American
Doctor, as well as a religious man, who lived less than 100 years ago. The following quotes mostly are found in
Kellogg's book "Plain Facts for Old and Young", Google's full view publication.
Pages 245-246, "We quote the following from the pen of a talented professor in a well known medical college, 'I
believe we cannot too strenuously insist upon this point that sexual intercourse should never be undertaken with any
other object than procreation, and never then unless the conditions are favorable to the production of a new being who
will be likely to have cause to thankfully bless his parents for the gift of life. If this rule were generally observed we
should have no broken nosed Tristram Shandys complaining of the carelessness of their fathers in begetting them."
247 "A very few hold that the sexual act should never be indulged except for the purpose of reproduction and then only
at periods when reproduction will be possible. Others while equally opposed to the excesses, the effects of which have
been described, limit indulgence to the number of months in the year."
242 "It is scarcely necessary to say that all medical testimony concurs [agrees] in forbidding indulgence during gestation
[pregnancy]. The same reasons require its interdiction [disallowance] during the nursing period. The fact that
fecundation would be impossible during pregnancy, and that during this period the female normally has no sexual desire
are other powerful arguments in favor of perfect continence at this time."
244 "The infringement of this law regulating intercourse during pregnancy, also reacts injuriously upon the mental
capacity of the child, tending to give it a stupid animalized look and there is also good reason to believe aids in
developing the idiotic condition."
223 Kellogg quotes Dr Gardner who says, "The very lively solicitations which spring from the genital sense have no
other end than to insure the perpetuity of the race"
Page 226 Kellogg quotes the following as given by and eminent medical authority; "Too frequent emissions of the life
giving the same within the marriage bond as without it. Many a man has until his marriage lived a most continent life
so has his wife. As soon as they are wedded intercourse is indulged in night after night, neither party having any idea
that these repeated sexual acts are excesses which the system of neither can bear, and which to the man at least are
absolute ruin. The practice is continued till health is impaired sometimes permanently."
Page 228 "The debilitating [disabling] effects of excessive sexual indulgence arise from two causes, viz the loss of the
seminal fluid and the nervous excitement. With reference to the value of the spermatic fluid Dr Gardner remarks 'The
sperm is the purest extract of the blood. Nature in creating it has intended it not only to communicate life but also to
nourish the individual life. In fact the re absorption of the fecundating liquid impresses upon the entire economy new
energy and a virility which contributes to the prolongation of life'. Testimony of a French Physician, A French author
of considerate note, on the same subject. 'Nothing costs the economy so much as the production of semen and its
forced ejaculation. It has been calculated that an ounce of semen was equivalent to forty ounces of blood. Semen is the
essence of the whole individual."
233 "Dr JR Black remarks as follows on this subject 'Medical writers agree that one of the most common causes of
the many forms of derangement to which woman is subject consists in excessive cohabitation. The diseases known as
menorrhagia, dysmenorrhoea, leucorrhoea, amenorrhea, abortions, prolapsus, chronic inflammations and ulcerations of
the womb, with a yet greater variety of sympathetic nervous disorders, are some of the distressing forms of these
Following are quotes about sexuality in marriage as found in my wife's great-grandfather and grandfather's old
book. This book which was written by Benarr Macfadden shares many of the beliefs of Kellogg, although regarding
some issues he is not quite as radical as Kellogg.
Benarr Mcfadden, Manhood and Marriage
Page 45 "With every marital intimacy there is a loss of a considerable amount of that life giving fluid known as
semen. One drop of semen is said to be equal to sixty drops of blood and whether or not this statement is true the life
creating fluid is certainly a concentrated product of extraordinary richness. When seminal discharges occur in sexual
intimacies in which the man and woman co operate there is an exchange of magnetism or of energy call it what you will
which makes up for the loss. But when the relationship is one sided when it is insisted upon by the man and not desired
or enjoyed by the woman there is a definite loss in vitality in every instance there being no return to the man of the
energy represented by his loss. In fact there are many one sided intimacies of this sort which are undoubtedly almost as
harmful to the man as masturbation to say nothing of the physical and psychical injury to the woman." [Note, the
ratio of 60 to 1, makes 1/4 ounce of sperm equal to close to a pint of blood].
66-67 "An acquaintance of mine dilated upon his cleverness in thus avoiding the parental responsibilities usually
associated with marriage [having intercourse at times when the wife would not conceive]. At that time I was inclined to
admire him for his supposed superior intelligence. I lost sight of this man for some years and when next I heard of him
he was in an insane asylum. There is no doubt that his misfortune was the result partly at least of his habit of confining
the marital relation to this improper period"
50 "Some women are possessed by an uncontrollable passion. They are never satisfied. The intimacies of sex are
acceptable to them at all times. The man who has contracted a marriage with such a woman must either possess
extraordinary will power or enormous vitality else he is doomed to certain destruction. No ordinary man can withstand
the drain on his vital resources that will almost certainly take place under such circumstances"
62 "A man should never show passion until the woman intentionally arouses it .... in most cases we would say that
separate beds are to be recommended. There is much less liability to excess. The intimate relations of the sexes when
they do take place are far more satisfactory. They are not so likely to be enervating and devitalizing in their influence..."
46-47 "Marriage is often accompanied by sexual excesses In many cases such grave mistakes bring bodily weakness
and mental deficiency. All of the functions of the body are busily engaged in trying to recover the energy that has been
spent in sexual dissipation .The vitality of the husband is simply insufficient to support an amount of sexual
As sexuality in marriage had the potential to be so damaging, solo orgasms which was then called self abuse were
looked on as something almost heinous, and possibly having even worse consequences than sex with a prostitute.
Following are various quotes about such also found in Plain Facts for Old and Young, by John Kellogg.
Page 317-318 Kellogg quotes Adam Clark writing, "The sin of self pollution which is generally considered to be that of
Onan is one of the most destructive evils ever practiced by fallen man. In many respects it is several degrees worse
than common whoredom and has in its train more awful consequences though practiced by numbers who would
shudder at the thought of criminal connection with a prostitute".
366 Kellogg wrote "Many young men waste away and die of symptoms resembling consumption which are solely the
result of the loathsome practice of self abuse. The real number of consumptives whose disease originates in this
manner can never be known."
Page 431 "Self Murderers; Of all the vices to which human beings are addicted no other so rapidly undermines the
constitution and so certainly makes a complete wreck of an individual as this especially when the habit is begun at an
early age. It wastes the most precious part of the blood uses up the vital forces and finally leaves the poor victim a
most utterly ruined and loathsome object. If a boy should be deprived of both hands and feet and should lose his
eyesight he would still be infinitely better off than the boy who for years gives himself up to the gratification of lust in
secret vice. For such a boy to become a strong vigorous man is just as impossible as it would be to make a mammoth
tree out of a currant bush. Such a man will necessarily be short lived."
(Page 429) "The sin of self pollution is one of the vilest the basest and the most degrading that a human being can
commit. It is worse than beastly. Those who commit it place themselves far below the meanest brute that breathes.
The most loathsome reptile rolling in the slush and slime of its stagnant pool would not bemean itself thus."
Page 365 Kellogg speaking of some of the effects of self abuse writes, "Extreme emaciation sallow or blotched skin
sunken eyes surrounded by a dark or blue color general weakness dullness weak back stupidity laziness or indisposition
to activity of any kind wandering and illy defined pains obscure and often terrible sensations pain in back and limbs
sleeplessness and a train of morbid symptoms too long to mention in detail attend these sufferers"
The following quotes pertain to Kellogg's manner of stopping solo orgasms; "It is best to place such a child under
the care of a faithful person of older years, whose special duty it shall be to watch him night and day until the habit is
thoroughly overcome. ...Bandaging the parts has been practiced with success. Tying the hands is also successful in
some cases but this will not always succeed for they will often contrive to continue the habit in other ways as by
working the limbs or lying upon the abdomen. Covering the organs with a cage has been practiced with entire success"
Page 296 (Googles limited view publication of Kellogg's Plain Facts book) "We have become acquainted with a
method of treatment of this disorder which is applicable in refractory cases, and we have employed it with entire
satisfaction. It consists in the application of one or more silver sutures in such a way as to prevent erection. The
prepuce or foreskin is drawn forward over the glans, and the needle to which the wire is attached is passed through
from one side to the other. After drawing the wire through, the ends are twisted together, and cut off close. It is now
impossible for an erection to occur, and the slight irritation thus produced acts as a most powerful means of
overcoming the disposition to resort to this practice. In females, the author has found the application of pure carbolic
acid to the clitoris and excellent means of allying the abnormal excitement, and preventing the recurrence of the
practice on those whose will power has become so weakened that the patient is unable to exercise entire self-
Kellogg not only was opposed to sexuality in marriage and solo orgasms, but when people refrained from both of these
and then had nocturnal emissions he counted them a disease unchaste people brought upon themselves. He writes "...
nocturnal pollutions or emissions. ...The masturbator knows nothing of this disease so long as he continues his vile
practice, but when he resolves to reform and ceases to defile himself voluntarily, he is astonished and disgusted to find
that the same filthy pollutions occur during his sleep without his voluntary participation. He now begins to see
something of the ruin he has wrought. ...He hopes the difficulty will subside of itself, but his hope vain, unless properly
treated it will probably continue until the ruin which he voluntarily began is completed." Page 353
Page 356-357 "But when seminal losses occur more frequently than once a month they will certainly ultimate in great
injury, even though immediate ill effects are not noticed, as in exceptional cases they may not be".
Page 358 "An eminent English physician Dr Milton who has treated many thousands of cases of this disease remarks in
a work upon the subject as follows; Anything beyond one emission a month requires attention..."
To help eliminate nocturnal emissions Kellogg gives advice as follows;
Page 355 "Certain circumstances greatly increase the frequency of the emissions, and thus hasten the injury which they
are certain to accomplish if not checked ... Tea and coffee, spices, and other condiments, and animal food [meat] have
a special tendency in this direction. Certain positions in bed, also serve as exciting or predisposing causes as sleeping
upon the back or abdomen. Feather beds and pillows and too warm covering in bed are also injurious for the same
Page 391-392 "A man that lives on pork fine flour bread rich pies and cakes and condiments drinks tea and coffee and
uses tobacco might as well try to fly as to be chaste in thought:" ...Eat but twice a day.... The ancients ate but two
meals a day, why should moderns eat three or four? If the stomach contains undigested food, the sleep will be
disturbed, dreams will be more abundant, and emissions will be frequent."
Although Kellogg was so opposed to sexuality, he yet was a great advocator of massage and hydrotherapy, and
advocated that women's breasts and wombs should be massaged to help with menstruation problems writing, "The best
means of treatment in these cases are warm hip baths, three or four times a week, warm vaginal douches daily at a
temperature of about 100 F., general massage and special massage of the breasts and womb". (Page 513-514, Ladies'
Guide in Health and Disease).
Regarding Kellogg it is said that although he was married, they had separate beds or rooms, and completely
refrained from the damaging thing called sex, and thus having no children adopted many from those who were involved
with the supposed damaging act. What did Kellogg ever think of the "seed of Abraham" or Jews, who when their King
David was old and sick, sought out the most beautiful maid in the land to bring to him and lay in his bosom as a means
to help restore his health (1 King 1:1-4)? What did he think of the Song of Solomon? Was Kellogg of the seed of
Abraham and the free woman, or of the seed of the bond woman and Taliban? Although Kellogg did not demand
women's faces to be veiled, as did numerous other anti sex teachers, Kellogg yet was very opposed to feminine
adornment and views, as well as written material, that tended to stir up sexual desires, and tells of Anthony Comstock
who destroyed tons of such material, as well as destroying what he considered immoral rubber items (Pages 186-188).
This Comstock is said to also have initiated laws to make it illegal to advertize any kind of contraceptives, including
condoms, in the USA, and is said to have initiated laws which allowed the postal system to confiscate any found in the
These popular doctors and teachers largely taught that noncompliance to their austere sexual teachings, had deadly
results, and could result in almost any sickness and disease. Thus when anyone who did not abide by their harsh
teachings got a sickness or disease, they had the additional pain and stress of fearing it was because of such. I fear the
harsh beliefs and manners of these kind of doctors and teachers, worried and stressed some poor children as well as
adults into sickness and insanity, while then they would use these examples of sickness and insanity to confirm their
teachings, and which then worried and stressed others into the same. Considering that Apostle Paul said it was the
doctrines of devil's to do disallow marriage, and said it is better to marry than to burn, whose doctrines would it be to
basically disallow sexual love in marriage, and thus to turn marriage into a place of troubling temptation and evil
frustrations, rather than a place of love and blessing as God intended, and to therewith condemn all other sexual release
while awake or asleep as something pertaining to corrupt ones, and something that results in all kinds of sickness and
Although the above seems harsh and incredible, yet some or all of this harshness existed long before Kellogg.
Tertullian and various others who lived about 200 A.D, and who further are counted as early Christian Church Fathers,
also confined sexuality to childbearing, and therewith were so rejecting of feminine beauty they demanded women's
faces to be veiled. Even further, this Taliban like veiling was also practiced by religious Greeks in Apostles Paul's time
as well as even before. Although harsh Taliban like manners existed for many years, making a difficult world, and
although in our very day priest's may not marry and Moslem women must veil their faces and some forbid meats, yet
the Scriptures pertaining to God's plan for the free woman and the seed of Abraham read;
(1 Tim 4:1&3) "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed
to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God
hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth."
(Pro 5:18-19) "Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. 19 Let her be as the loving hind
and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.:"
(Psa 19:5-6) "Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race."
(1 Cor 12:23-25) "And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow
more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness. 24 For our comely parts have no
need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked: 25 That
there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another."
(Col 2:20-23) "Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the
world, are ye subject to ordinances, 21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not; 22 Which all are to perish with the using;)
after the commandments and doctrines of men? 23 Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and
humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh."
(1 Cor 11:15) "But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for [Greek, instead of] a
covering [Greek, veil]."
(2 Cor 3:16-18) " Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away. 17 Now the Lord is that
Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the
glory of the Lord..."
(Rev 21:2) "And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride
adorned for her husband."
May God help us rightly understand these Scriptures. It is incredible that the writer's Bible, and his wife's Bible
have very unusual tears that look like bites taken out of them, at the most crucial Scripture in the Bible regarding
veiling and where Thammar was thought to be a harlot because she veiled her face! These tears which happened years
ago, are unlike any others in our Bibles and we have no idea how they happened. It appears the harsh mouth of
falsehood has torn into and hidden what these Scriptures should tell us. These tears can be seen at this web page http:
It is clear that many religious individuals and denominations, and even non religious people in our USA have been
affected by the Taliban like teachings as given by Kellogg and numerous others like him. Likely America's medical
society, as well as many religious ones, want to overlook and forget religious and medical teachings as quoted above.
Although many might want to stick their heads in the sand regarding these things, yet the question remains, how much
are we affected by these teachings, and how much error and ignorance yet remains? Thanks to Google for making so
many books freely available. May God through Christ have mercy on us, and may He teach us what it means to be of
the seed of Abraham and the free woman.
